A newly-retired Thornton couple are planning a never-ending holiday around the world after scoring division one in last weekend’s Saturday Lotto Superdraw.
The New South Wales pair held one of the 14 division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Lotto draw 3963 on Saturday 13 July 2019, with each entry taking home a division one prize of $1,428,571.43.
Sharing their excitement with a NSW Lotteries official this morning to confirm their win, the woman relived the life-changing revelation.
“Isn’t that awesome,” she laughed.
“Thank you love. Thank you.
“It’s all happening. Oh my god! I can’t believe it.
“We just retired a couple of months ago!
“It’s funny because I wasn’t feeling well yesterday so I went down and checked my lottery tickets.
“I scanned my ticket and the girl told me she needed to call the head office.
“I had no idea what was going on. When they said it was division one, I thought they had to be joking.
“I had no idea that in this little bag of mine was a winning ticket of almost $1.5 million. It’s amazing!”
The husband and wife said their win couldn’t have arrived at a better time in their life.
“This will change our retirement so much,” she said.
“We’re going to help our children and whatever we want, we can get.
“We’re all going on a family holiday to Disneyland, and my husband and I will travel the world.
“It’s a big relief!”
The happy couple, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning entry at Cooranbong Newsagency, Shop 7, 559 Freemans Drive, Cooranbong.
Maitland shopper discovers division one surprise
A Maitland shopper this morning discovered they became a millionaire almost a fortnight ago from winning division one in a Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw.
The entry, purchased at Thornton Newsagency, 19 Railway Avenue, Thornton, was one of the three division one winning entries in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3885 on Wednesday 10 July 2019.
As the entry was unregistered, NSW Lotteries officials had no way to contact the winning ticketholder with the news and had to wait for them to check their entry.
How the winner plans to spend their million-dollar surprise will forever remain a mystery as they have chosen to remain completely anonymous.
Thornton Newsagency owner Wayne Hackett said he was thrilled the winner had finally been united with their prize.
“When I first heard we’d sold a division one winning entry, I was jubilated. I was so happy for the winner.
“We have had balloons, streamers and a general party atmosphere in store to celebrate the win. Our customers have been very excited to hear there’s been a big win in the region.
“This is our first division one win we’ve had. It feels wonderful to have changed someone’s life and we wish our winner all the very best with their prize.”
