After initially ignoring the calls, a young Belconnen couple finally answered the phone this evening to the revelation they’re now $20 million richer.

The ACT couple in their 30s held the only division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1320, drawn Thursday 2 September.

In addition to winning the division one jackpot of $20,507,103.16, the couple’s PowerHit entry also scored division two 19 times, bolstering their total windfall to $20,852,900.31.

The couple were still hard at work at home when an official from The Lott called this evening to break the news they were now Australia’s newest multi-millionaires.

“Oh my god!” the winning man exclaimed while his wife screamed in the background.

“I saw I had two missed calls, and I thought, ‘who’s calling me at this time?’. I thought, ‘I’m not answering this. They’re probably ringing with bad news’.  I’m glad I answered now!

“We were literally still working when you called.

“I don’t buy lottery tickets that often, but lately we’ve been like, ‘let’s just do it. Who knows?’.

“No jokes, two nights ago, I was lying in bed, and these numbers pop into my head randomly. I bought a ticket into Set for Life using those numbers. But while I was getting that, I just thought I’d throw in a PowerHit entry as Powerball had $20 million.

“You’ve got to be in it to win it!”

The couple shared they’d often fantasised about what they’d do if they ever won the big one and now looked forward to making some of those long-held dreams a reality.

“This is just going to mean a lot for the whole family,” the winning man shared.

“I want to help my parents and siblings. I want to buy a house for our young family.  It’s going to make a world of difference.”

The winning PowerHit QuickPick entry was purchased online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1320 on Thursday 2 September 2021 were 17, 25, 12, 5, 4, 28 and 14. The all-important Powerball number was 10.

Across Australia, there was one division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1320 – the entry from the ACT.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 307 so far this calendar year, including 91 won by NSW Lotteries customers.

In the 12 months to 30 June 2021, 17 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed more than $519.8 million in prize money.

During this time, Powerball twice offered an $80 million jackpot – the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game.

Of the 17 Powerball division one winning entries in FY21, 10 landed in New South Wales, five in Queensland and two in Victoria.
