A hard-working small-business owner from Tweed Heads has declared 2020 will be her year to relax after scoring one of the top prizes of $50,000 on a $4 Peppermint Bingo Instant Scratch-Its ticket.

The winning ticket was purchased at Newton’s Newsagency, 49 Wharf Street, Tweed Heads.

Speaking with a NSW Lotteries official this morning to confirm the win, the winning woman recounted how she discovered her windfall.

“I buy myself one or two Instant Scratch-Its every week,” she explained.

“So, you could say this was a little bit of a Christmas present to myself as I bought it on Christmas Eve.

“I scratched it while I was at work and then as soon as I saw I had won I raced back into the newsagency where I bought it and showed them.

“We were all screaming ‘I can’t believe it! I can’t believe it!’

“I just feel so lucky. I can’t believe I won a top prize!

“The first thing I did was call my mum and she was screaming too.

“It’s just an unbelievable feeling! I’m really, really happy!”

When asked how she planned to enjoy her instant windfall, the thrilled winner revealed it had come at a good time.

“It is such a relief!” she declared.

“Last year was a pretty tough one for me with my health and my work so I think God is looking out for me because I’ve had a rough time.

“I’ll use the windfall to pay off a few bills and head into 2020 more relaxed because I won’t have to stress anymore!”

The hard-worker revealed she hadn’t left any time to celebrate after the festive period, instead focusing on her small-business.

“I haven’t had a chance to celebrate because I am working at my business but once everything calms down, I might take a few days off to go on a small trip and relax,” she shared.

Newton’s Newsagency owner Robert Newton said he was thrilled his outlet had sold another major prize.

“It was fantastic to discover we’d sold a top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket,” he said.

“We’ve put up signs in store to let everyone know we’ve sold a winner.

“This is the 34th major prize we’ve sold since we opened over 30 years ago.

“We hope there is a number 35 soon!

“Congratulations to our winner! We wish her all the best with her prize and we’re so pleased it has come at a good time for her.”

Between 1 January and 31 December 2019, there were 114 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $9.61 million in top prizes.

During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 27.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $208.8 million. This equates to more than half a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
