A Coolangatta couple say their travel fund is suddenly growing by $1,000 every week for the next five years after scratching one of the top prizes on a $5 Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
The top prize winning $5 Live the Life ticket was purchased at Kirra Beach News & Lotto, Shop 3 & 4 Kirra Village, Kirra.
Confirming their life-changing win with a Golden Casket official this morning, the woman explained her initial disbelief at scoring the prize.
“It’s excellent!” she laughed.
“It was the best surprise!
“It was my husband’s birthday and he had a little win on Lotto so he bought the ticket!
“Of course when we first scratched it, there’s no way I believed we had won the top prize!
“It didn’t really sink in for a little while. Once we start seeing the money appear in our account every week maybe that’s when it will actually hit us!”
When asked how she planned to enjoy her windfall, the woman revealed her and her husband would definitely be living the life.
“We really want to do some travelling throughout the world,” she said.
“So this will go towards a travel fund for us to enjoy at our leisure. It’s absolutely perfect!”
Kirra Beach News & Lotto owner Mandy Rue said her winning customers were delighted when they came in store to check their ticket.
“It was so lovely to be part of the win and excitement for this very happy couple,” she said.
“The winning ticket was sold by my husband and checked by me, so it was very special.

Between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019, there were 118 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $12.14 million in top prizes.
