An Adelaide man is thanking is favourite numbers for scoring him a $50,000 Keno Spot 8 prize on the weekend.

The happy winner held a Keno Spot 8 winning entry worth $50,000 in Keno draw 2545766, drawn 6 October 2019.

Sharing his joy with a SA Lotteries official this morning, the jolly man recounted how he came to hold the winning ticket.

“I play Keno once a day and every time I play I use the same numbers,” he explained.

“They are mostly a mix of family birthdates and I’ve been using the same numbers for about five years now.

“I’ve had a few wins on these numbers before, but nothing like this! Usually just enough to put on my next ticket.

“I usually stick around and watch the draw but this time I had to head off to see a mate.

“It wasn’t until I came back later in the day and checked my ticket that they told me I was a major winner.

“I thought that sounded pretty good!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his Keno windfall, the happy man revealed it had come at a good time.

“It will certainly come in handy!” he laughed.

“It has come at a good time because I’ve only been retired a short time. I’ll be able to put it into investments for the future.”

The thrilled winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning Keno Spot 8 entry at IGA Hackham, Lot 18, Glynville Drive, Hackham West.

IGA Hackham owner Baggio Wang said he was thrilled a regular customer had scored a major prize.

“We were thrilled when we discovered we had sold a major prize!” he exclaimed.

“We saw it come up on the screen and we hoped it was our regular player who buys a Keno 8 Spot entry every day.

“We were really happy when we came in and we got to tell him he’d won. He is such a nice guy and we are thrilled for him.

“This is the biggest Keno prize we’ve ever sold!”

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, there were 27 Keno Spot 8, 9 and 10 winners across South Australia who scored more than $5.98 million.  The Spot 10 prize was won twice during this time – a win worth more than $1.7 million was won in Mansfield Park in October 2018, and a prize of more than $2.1 million was won in Findon in June 2019.

Keno is a game whereby 20 numbers are randomly generated from a possible 80. To win a Keno Spot 8 prize, a player must match all eight of the numbers selected on their ticket against the 20 numbers drawn.
