With the Powerball jackpot racing to a massive $60 million this Thursday night, Australians have begun jockeying for their entries in the hope of saddling up to the division one prize.
Thursday’s $60 million Powerball prize is the third highest jackpot the game has offered so far in 2018.
It comes less than three months after the record-breaking $100 million Powerball draw, which was won by a young man from Melbourne and a hardworking Sydney dad.
So far this year, 14 entries have taken home $284 million in Powerball division one prize money.
It’s been six weeks since Powerball crowned its last division one multi-millionaire, spurring the game’s jackpot to fly to $60 million this Thursday.
While Powerball is a random game of chance and every number has an equal chance of being drawn, the Lott can reveal the “hot” and “cold” numbers drawn during the past 25 draws.
For the main barrel, where seven winning numbers are drawn from 35, the ‘hot’ number is 32, having come out of the gate 12 times, or almost every second draw, since April (Table 1).
The number 25 has made an appearance nine times.
Table 1: ‘Hot’ winning numbers
Winning number | 32 | 25 |
Times drawn during past 25 draws | 12 | 9 |
At the same time, there are some numbers that have barely made it out of the barriers during the past 6 months (Table 2).
Table 2: ‘Cold’ winning numbers
Winning number | 12 | 26 | 11 |
Times drawn during past 25 draws | 2 | 3 | 3 |
For the separate Powerball barrel, where a single Powerball number between one and 20 is drawn, the number 3 has been drawn more than any other during recent draws.

Powerball number | 3 |
Times drawn during past 25 draws | 4 |

Powerball spokesperson Matt Hart said now the ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ numbers had been revealed, Powerball players needed to decide if this might impact their entry in Thursday night’s draw.
“The big question is – do you choose hot numbers in the hope that they live up to their reputation of being most frequently drawn, or do you back the cold numbers believing they’re now up for the race?” he said.
“Either way, we’re expecting a surge of entries as Australians line up for their chance to win a share of $60 million – 2018’s third largest Powerball jackpot.
“In fact, we expect up to one-in-five Aussie adults to have an entry in Thursday’s Powerball draw. It’s fair to say, everyone wants the chance to win this life-changing prize.
“Imagine how your life could change if you won a share of $60 million!
“Our best tip is to be sure to grab an entry early and register it to a player’s card. Not only does this registration ensure your prize is secure, it also ensures you receive that life-changing phone call with the amazing news of a division one win.”
The Lott’s division one winning tally across all Australian lottery games has now reached 137 so far this financial year.
Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.
